TURKMEN CARPETS

Rugs from Turkmenistan are almost always named by tribal names as various tribes tended to move as the local balance of power shifted. The principal groups to whom rug waving has been attributed during the last two hundred years include the Salor, Saryk, Tekke, Yomut, Ersari, Kizil Ayak, Chub Bash, Chodor and Arabachi. Below are some selected examples from different tribes.
