BANANA (MUSA)

In the family Musaceae, or banana family, the banana (Turkish: muz) grows on a very large perennial herb which grows in hot climates. It is native to Malaysia, Indonesia and Southeast Asia, but by the 6th century B.C. was already being cultivated in India. The Assyrians and ancient Egyptians were familiar with the banana. Banana cultivation began in China in the 2nd century B.C. In Turkey, Bananas are raised in the regions of Antalya and Anamur.
