Prof. Rahmi Aksungur was born in Izmir in 1955. He graduated from Izmir Batı College in 1972 and from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture with a degree of honor in 1979. He studied with Ali Teoman Germaner, Özer Kabaş and Altan Gürman in his first year, and then in the studios of Şadi Çalık, Hüseyin Gezer and Tamer Başoğlu. In 1982 he was appointed as a Research Assistant in the Department of Sculpture of State Academy of Fine Arts. He received a proficiency doctorate degree from the Department of Sculpture in 1983. He became Associate Professor in 1994 and tenured Professor in 2000. He was the Dean of Mimar Sinan University, Academy of Fine Arts between 2002 and 2005. Prof. Aksungur won a lot of awards and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. His works are displayed in numerous public locations and private premises and appear in various collections and museums. Since 2006 he has been serving as Rector of Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts.
