Prof. Hasip Pektaş was born in Ermenak, Karaman in 1953. He graduated from Akşehir primary Teachers training school in 1971 and from the Art Department of the Gazi Institute for Education in 1974. Until 1982 he worked as a teacher at elementary schools attached to the Teachers training Colleges. Between 1982 and 1987 he taught in the Department of Graphic Art, Faculty of Education, Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun. Since 1987, He has worked as a lecturer at the Department of Graphic Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Hacettepe University. He became an assistant Professor in 1995 and he obtained the title of tenured Professor in 2001. From 2000 to 2003 he performed the duties of Vice Dean and from 2003 to 2006 he became Dean at the Fine Arts Faculty. His book, Ex Libris was published in 1966 and reprinted in 2003. His works were published in "Graphia" and "Boekmerk" in Belgium, in "Bookplates in the News" in USA, in "Exlibriskunst und Graphic" in Germany, in "Bookplate Journal" in England and in "Exlibris Aboensis" in Finland. He has held 23 solo exhibitions and taken part in various competitions and joint exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. He has directed many seminars on the subjects of Ex Libris and Graphics, and conducted studio workshops. Under the auspices of Erasmus, he lectured at Ghent Fine Arts Academy in Belgium.
He has made intensive studies in art museums of Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Algeria, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, Belarus, Austria, Czech Republic, USA, Canada and Finland. He was awarded Special Prize in the Şeref Akdik Painting Competition (1974); the first prize at the third Turco-Italian Ex Libris Biennial (1996); a mention at the IVth International Graphics Biennial in Francavilla al Mare (2006). He organized the first and second International Ex-libris Competition in Ankara in 2003 and 2007. He is the President of the Ankara Ex Libris Society and of the Istanbul Ex-libris Museum. He is also the head of the Hacettepe Art Museum. Currently Prof. Pektaş has been working as a Professor at Işık University, Faculty of Fine Arts in Istanbul.
