Özgür Erkök was born in Ankara in 1981. He graduated from the Painting Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 2005. He completed his Master’s degree at the Faculty of Art and Design of Yıldız Technical University in 2011. Erkök has expressed his art using different kinds of means such as video, performance and drawings. He has had several solo exhibitions, and participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Erkök is a member of “Ha Za Vu Zu” collective group, with which he has had many performances and exhibitions such as 10th Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul (2007), “The Last Things”, Westfalischer Kunstverein, Münster (2008), Baltık Triennial, CAC, Vilnius (2009), 10th International Lyon Biennial, Lyon (2009), “Fikirler Suça Dönüşünce”, Depo, Istanbul (2010), “What a Loop”, Kammerspiele, Munich (2010), and “Cut the Flow”, “Relocate”, Plovdiv-BG, Athens, Skopje, and Pristine (2011). Erkök has also realized performing art in various cities like Istanbul, Berlin, Brussels, and Basel. In 2012, he was selected as one of semi-finalists for Full Art Prize 2012, which was the first contemporary art prize of Turkey. Currently, Erkök lives and works in Istanbul and Berlin.
