İz Öztat was born in Istanbul in 1981.  She studied Visual Arts and graduated with Honors from Oberlin College in Ohio. She completed her master′s degree in Visual Arts at Sabanci University. She explores how the notion of “sacred” materializes and shapes the body, memory, time, and space. In 2008, with Emincan Alemdaroglu, Öztat founded "cura bodrum residency" in Muğla as an investigation into self-organization and non-institutional support mechanisms. In 2009-2011, she lectured at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Kadir Has University. In 2011, she was the project manager to establish CDA-Projects Grant for Artistic Research and Production. Currently, Öztat is continuing her doctoral degree in Art Practice at Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul.
