Ergin Çavuşoğlu was born in Tirgoviste, Bulgaria in 1968. He studied at I. Petrov School of Fine Arts in Sofia between 1982 and 1987. He then studied and graduated from the Painting Department at Marmara University in 1994. In 2004, he received Beck’s Futures Award at ICA in London. In 2006, Çavuşoğlu won an award from the Art and Humanities Research Council. After finishing his master’s degree at Goldsmiths College, he completed his doctoral degree at the University of Portsmouth, School of Art, Design and Media in London in 2009. Currently, he works mostly in photographic installation and video, often using split or multiple screens. In 2009, Çavuşoğlu won Artes Mundi Prize 2010.
