Devabil Kara was born in Şenkaya, Erzurum in 1962. He graduated from the Painting Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University in 1986. In 1987, he started working as an assistant in the Faculty of Fine Arts. He joined the seminar of Joseph Tichy to learn gravure technique. In the same year, Kara participated in Salzburg International Summer Academy and studied lithograph. In 1993, he received a master’s degree at his alma mater. Between 1996 and 1997, he went to the US and studied painting. Kara has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, workshops, biennials and triennials in Turkey and abroad. He has received 13 awards including the award of State Painting competition and DYO Painting competition. Kara has published his articles in many art magazines and newspapers such as “Sanat Çevresi”, “Yapı Dergisi” and Cumhuriyet news paper. His art works can be seen in the collection of the Ankara State Painting and Sculpture Museum, Izmir DYO museum, Akbank, İş Bank, Anadolu University Fine Arts Faculty, Adana Çimento Sanayii T.A.Ş., Sint Niklaas Ex Libris Museum and many private collections in the world. As of today, Kara teaches at the Painting Department of Marmara University.
