Cengiz Çekil was born in Bor in 1945. After graduating from Gazi Institute of Education in Ankara, he went to Paris to study at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1975, he held his first solo exhibition “Réorganisation pour une Exposition” in the basement of a café in Paris. Çekil returned to Turkey in 1976 and completed his master′s degree in Sculpture at Ege University in Izmir. In 2010 his first solo exhibition in Turkey, curated by Vasıf Kortun, was held at Rampa Gallery. Çekil has participated in noteworthy exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. From 2001 to 2007, he served as Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts at Dokuz Eylül University. Since 2007, he has worked as a faculty member at Beykent University in Istanbul. Çekil currently lives and works in Istanbul.
