Art Profile :

Talip Mert was born in Sivas in 1953. He graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul University. He learned calligraphy from Hamid Aytaç and illumination art (Tezhip) from Prof. Dr. Süheyl Ünver and Prof. Dr. Çiçek Derman. He obtained his professional license from Hamid Aytaç in 1981. Between 1990 and 1994, Mert served as an archivist in the Ottoman Archive. Since 1994, he has taught in the Department of Archive at Marmara University. Mert has written sülüs, celi sülüs, divani, celi divani and tuğra scripts. Besides being a calligrapher, he researches on Ottoman cultural history. He has published several books: “PTT Müzesi Osmanlı Posta Damgaları Kataloğu” (with Hidayet Yavuz Nuhoğlu) (Istanbul: IRCICA, 1990), “Gül Destesi: A Bouquet of Roses” (Istanbul: Azim Dağıtım, 2007), and “Açıklamalı Safahat Lügatı” (with Mehmet Akif Ersoy) (Istanbul: Yağmur publications, 2011).
