Selim Türkoğlu was born in Erzincan in 1960. In 1980s, he learned calligraphy from Ali Rüştü Oran and Ali Selçuk Erkut. In 1990, Türkoğlu obtained a professional license in sülüs and nesih writings from Ali Rüşdü Oran, Sain Özel and Ali Selçuk Erkurt; and in ta’lik writing from Prof. Ali Alparslan. In the same year, Türkoğlu founded his workshop in Fatih, Istanbul. In 2004, he moved his workshop to Sultanahmet, and established the art house “Gallery Ser”.

Türkoğlu has had more than 20 solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He was invited to Vienna by the Austria Islam Federation, and gave a presentation on “Ottoman Calligraphy Art”. Türkoğlu has published many articles on calligraphy in various magazines and newspapers. He also published the book “Ruhî Hendese”. He received an award of "Hüsn-i Hat" from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Currently, Türkoğlu continues to work and teach at his workshop in Istanbul. He is a member of GESAM.
