Gülnihal Küpeli was born in Tokat in 1969. She graduated from the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 1991. She continued her master’s and doctoral degree at Marmara University. In addition to illumination works and academic studies, Küpeli has worked in hand drawings (kalemişi) and paper conservation works. She has repaired and illuminated many calligraphy works including Egyptian calligrapher Seyyid Ibrahim’s works. Küpeli has participated in many exhibitions and workshops in Turkey and abroad. Her works can be seen in many private and museum collections such as the collection of the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture, Turkis Petrol Foundation Museum, and of Cartwright Hall Art Museum in Bradford.  Currently, Küpeli teaches at Marmara University, and continues to work at her workshop.
