Hüseyin Gündüz was born in Kayseri in 1961. He learned nesih, sülüs, and ta′lik scripts from Hamid Aytaç and Kemal Batanay in 1976-1982. In 1982-1984, Gündüz attended calligraphy class at Mimar Sinan University. After graduating from the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University in 1984, Gündüz pursued his calligraphy study with Prof. Emin Barın. In 1985 he began working as a research assistant at the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and completed his master′s and doctoral degree in proficiency in Arts at the same university. In 1996 he became an Assistant Professor and worked as Head of the Department of Calligraphy. Gündüz has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has also written many articles and published two books: Dancing Letters: A Selection of Turkish Calligraphic Art (Istanbul: Antik A.Ş., 2000) and Hilye-i Şerife Hat Sanatında Hz. Muhammed′in Özellikleri (Istanbul: Antik A.Ş., 2006). He prepared numerous tuğras for national and international statesmen and other renowned people. His works can be seen in various private and public collections in Turkey and abroad. In addition, Gündüz has restored many calligraphy works in private collections. He currently continues teaching at Mimar Sinan University.
