Art Profile :

Vadullah İşçi was born in Siirt in 1956. When he was 16 years old, he started to weave Siirt blanket which has been a part of his family business since the 1940’s. Today he has continued to work with his own children and taught this art to young generation as well.  A Siirt blanket is woven with mohair, which is clipped off only once a year. Mohair is separated to its different colors, and then combed at a factory, later the hair is washed and dried. After it is spun into thread using a spindle (kirmen) and made into a hank. Then it is woven on a loom.  After weaving, the blanket is putting on the loom again and fluffs are taken out. The blanket is then placed on the floor and washed with a special method. It’s sometimes combed in the shape of diamond, square, triangle and then dried. Generally it is made of the natural colors, but sometimes it’s dyed.
