Nebahat Maşalı

Nebahat Maşalı was born in the district of Ulus, near Bartın in 1960. She learned how to make traditional flattened metal threads (tel kırma) from her grandmother. She makes traditional motifs as well as her own designs with flattened metal threads on textiles. In 2004, she registered her name as a brand in the Turkish Patent Institute. Maşalı has participated in many events, festivals and TV programs both in Turkey and abroad to introduce the craft of flattened metal thread. She received a certificate of thanks from the Turkish Ministry of Culture for her contribution into Turkish traditional handicraft art.
