Volkan Ertem was born in Istanbul in 1980. He entered Istanbul Technical University Turkis Music State Conservatory in 1991. He studied cello with prominent artists such as Prof. Dr. Nevzat Atlığ, Prof. Dr. Alâeddin Yavaşça, Erol Sayan, Necati Giray, Cenk Öztürk, Mehmet Bitmez and Fulya Şeren. Ertem has performed for many concerts of famous artists including Prof. Dr. Alâeddin Yavasça, Müzeyyen Senar, Ahmet Özhan, Melihat Gülses and Münip Utandı. Ertem joined concert tours which were held in Israel and Japan. He has also performed for many albums including the album of Istanbul Classical Turkish Music Orchestra, directed by Nevzat Sumer. Ertem has also performed for concerts and albums of Istanbul Sazkar Ensemble. Since 2006 he has performed in the Presidency Chorus of Classical Turkish Music. He also performs with Istanbul Fasıl Ensemble, directed by Mehmet Güntekin.
