Verda Erman was born in Istanbul in 1944. She began studying music at the Conservatory of Istanbul Municipality. She learned piano from Rana Erksan and Ferdi Stratzer. In 1957, she was sent to Paris and studied piano with Lucette Descaves at Paris Conservatory. To develop her skill, she continued to study piano with famous pianist and pedagogue Lazare Levy. Erman also studied harmony and counterpoint with Noel Gallon. During her studying in Paris, she also performed concerts. After she returned to Turkey, Erman participated in many concerts with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. In 1963, she received the Paris award in the Marguerite Long-Jaques Thibaud International Piano Contest.  In 1965, she won the second prize in the Canada International Piano Contest. Since 1971, Erman has been invited to world important music centers as a guest artist to perform her concerts. She was invited to the Marlboro Festival by Rudolf Serkin. In 1971, Erman received a title of State Artist. She has been a soloist in the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and participated in their European tour as a concert pianist.
