Tolgahan Çoğulu was born in Ankara in 1978. He started his guitar training at age of twelve. In 1996 he entered the Department of Business Administration at Bosphorus University and continued his guitar education with Ayhan Akkaya in the Folklore Club. He gave many concerts and attended various festivals with Bosphorus University Folklore Club Guitar Ensemble.

After graduating from Bosphorus University in 2001, Çoğulu entered Istanbul Technical University, Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) for his Master′s degree and studied guitar with Soner Egesel and Bekir Küçükay. In 2010 he completed his doctoral degree at MIAM. His doctoral thesis "The Adaptation of Bağlama Techniques into Classical Guitar Performance" has been published by VDM Publishing in Germany in 2011. He worked as a research assistant (2003-2010) classical guitar lectuere (2010-2013) at MIAM, Istanbul Technical University. He has attended the classical guitar festivals of Lambesc, Esztregom, Iserlohn, and Westfalian Guitar Spring to take part in the closing concerts.

Dr. Çoğulu founded the classical guitar duo "Duoist" with Erhan Birol in 2007. They released the first CD "İki Elin Sesi" (Pan Müzik, 2011). He also established the classical guitar and flute duo "Istanbul Flut-Gitar Ikilisi" with Aysu Sulu Sanver in 2007 and the classical guitar and violin duo "Duo Aqua" with Ajda Boydağ in 2008. In 2008 Çoğulu designed the Adjustable Microtonal Guitar and received it′s patent in 2012. In 2011 he founded Microtonal Guitar Duo with Sinan Cem Eroğlu. Dr. Çoğulu have given concerts with these ensembles in many festivals including the University of Memphis, the 9th International Yıldız Technical University Guitar Festival, the 7th and 8th International Afyon Karahisar Classical Music Festival.

Dr. Çoğulu has performed classical guitar, and given many lecture recitals, seminars and master classes in Turkey and abroad. He is a member of Bosphorus Performing Arts Ensemble since 2001. In 2014 he received the first prize at the 2014 Margaret Guthman Musical Instruments Competition at Georgia Tech University. He also won a jury award in the 5th Donizetti Classical Music Awards in 2014. Since 2013 Dr. Çoğulu has taught as Associate Professor at MIAM, Istanbul Technical University.
