Tuncay Kemertaş was born in Izmir in 1971. He learned Turkish folk music from his father and prominent musician Mükerrem Kemertaş, and other artists such as Celal Güzelses, Bigali Mehmet, Hafız Sami, Cemil Cankat and Urfalı Kel Hamza. While studying at high school and university, Tuncay Kemertaş sung as a chorister as well as a soloist in many amateur choruses. He sometimes performed bağlama, too. In 1989 he passed an examination and joined the Youth Chorus, which was directed Walter Straus, Caner Ruhselman and Nural Altar. In 1991 Kemertaş won the regional first place and the second place in Turkey in the Turkish Folk Music Amateur Singing Contest, organized by TRT. In 1992 he joined Yurttan Sesler Ensemble and started working with them. In 1995 Kemertaş graduated from the Biology Department in the Faculty of Science at Ege University. Since 2002 Tuncay Kemertaş has been working for the Turkish Folk Music Yurttan Sesler Ensemble. He released "Yadigar" album with Mükerrem Kemertaş in 2010 and "Tuncay Kemertaş" album in 2011.
