Teoman (Fazlı Teoman Yakupoğlu) was born in Istanbul in 1967. After studying business administration and mathematics at Boğaziçi University, he transferred to and graduated from the Sociology Department of the same university. He then completed his master’s degree in Women′s Studies at Istanbul University.
In 1986, he founded the rock band Mirage with his friends when he studied at the Sociology Department of Boğaziçi University. He performed with various bands for 10 years until his breakthrough song, "Ne Ekmek Ne de Su" (Neither Bread Nor Water) won first prize in the Roxy Music Days. In 1996, Teoman released his first album “Teoman”. It was followed by “O”, “17”, “Gönülçelen”, “Teoman 2003 –Kırmız Album-", “En Güzel Hikâyem”, “Renkli Rüyalar Oteli”, “İnsanlık Halleri”, and other remix albums. He founded his own film and music company and released many his hit songs, including "Paramparça" (All in Pieces), "Senden Önce Senden Sonra" (Before You, After You), "17" and "Papatya" (Daisy). Currently, Teoman works not only as a singer but also as a producer with other music groups. He has also directed his own music videos.
Besides his music activities, Teoman is an actor and performed in the film “Mumya Firarda” (2002) and “Romantik” (2007). He also wrote the script for the film “Balans ve Manevra” (2005) and composed its music. In addition, he worked as a producer and director of the film, and acted one of the heroes. Teoman has also written columns for newspapers and magazines. He has received many awards such as "Best Singer", "Best Songwriter", "Best Album", and "Artist of the Year".
