Nilüfer (Nilüfer Yumlu) was born in Istanbul in 1955. In 1970, she won in the Altın Ses (Golden Voice) singing contest with a song “Sensiz Yıllarda”, when she was a student at Istanbul Italian High School. She became famous with the support of Nino Varon and sang hit songs such as “Kalbim Bir Pusula” (1972) and “Dünya Dönüyor” (1973). Her debut album “Nilüfer74”, which included the songs such as “Dünya Dönüyor”, “Göreceksin Kendini”, “Aldanırım Sana” and “Başıma Gelenler”, became a part of the history of Turkish Pop Music. In 1975, accepting offers for making records from German producers, Nilüfer made the 45 rpms "Miss Nilüfer", and "Ali". In the same year, she made the 45 "Oh ya", with "Of aman aman", and "Kim arar seni" (1977). In this period she received the nickname ′Queen of the 45′s′. In 1978, she represented Turkey with Group Bazar in the Eurovision Song Contest in Paris. She then released “Nilüfer’79”, “Nilüfer ‘80”, “Sensiz Olmaz”, “Nilüfer ‘84” and “Bir selam Yeter” (1985).

In 1986, Nilüfer joined the International Mediterranean Song Contest, which was organized in Antalya, Aspendos. She sang Kayahan′s composition "Geceler” and won first place. In the next year, she released the album “Geceler”. In 1992, Nilüfer worked with Kayahan, Adnan Ergil and Onno Tunç and released “Yine Yeni Yeniden”. In 1994, she released “Ne Masal Ne Rüya” including the songs of “Eğrisi Dorğrusu”, “Son Perde” and “Sevgi Tam Olmalı”. The songs which were written and composed by Kayahan and sung by Nilüfer are some of most well-known Turkish pop songs.

In 1997, she released “Nilüfer’le”, and it became a huge hit with songs such as Kayahan’s “Mavilim” and “Çok Uzaklarda”, Adnan Ergil’s “Unut Gitsin”, and Şehrazat’s “Namussuz Akşamlar”. With this album, Nilüfer won Kral TV Video Music Award and Altın Kelebek Awards. She was also selected as the best female singer of the year. Since 1997, Nilüfer is the National Ambassador of Turkey with UNICEF. In 1998, she was awarded with the honorary title of State Artist of Turkey. In February of 1998 a collection of her 70′s hits was released under the title "Yeniden yetmişe". In 2001, Nilüfer released “Büyük Aşkım” including songs “Söz Güzelim”, “Beni mi Buldun”, “Büyük Aşkım” and “Anlat Arkadaşım”. In 2005, she released "Karar verdim", on which her own lyrics and compositions were prominent. The album was awarded with a golden record by MÜYAP. It took four years to come up with a successive album in 2009 called "Hayal". This was followed by a new single in 2010 called "Zalimin Kararı". Nilüfer has given many concerts including the Rumeli Hisarı Concert series and the Harbiye Open air Concert series.
