Orhun Orhon was born in Ankara in 1977. He studied music composition with Elhan Bakihanov at the Department of Theory and Composition in the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Bilkent University. After graduating from Bilkent University, Orhon entered Academie Internationale de Musique de Gaillard, France in 2001 and studied composition with Rainer Boesch. Orhon returned to Turkey and completed his doctoral degree in orchestra conducting with Prof. Gürer Aykal in the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Bilkent University. In 2007 he became the assistant conductor at the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orcehstra. Orhon received the third and the second prizes in Dr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı National Composition Contest, respectively in 2006 and 2008. He has been credited for his diverse repertoire ranging from modern chamber music to large orchestral music. He also made the first recordings and world premiers of many Turkish composers’ works. In 2011 he had a chance to work with famous conductor Kurt Masur in Germany. Orhon currently teaches at the State Conservatory of Başkent University. He has conducted Turkish-Greek Youth Orchestra and Ankara Youth Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as a director in the Müzgender. Orhon is a member of BESOM.
