Murat Aydemir was born in Hannover in 1971. In 1992, he graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music State Conservatory, where he studied tambour with Necip Gülses. In 1989, he worked as a guest artist in the Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble for a year, which was directed by Necdet Yaşar. Aydemir has had an opportunity to work with great maestros such as Necdet Yaşar, Bekir Sıdkı Sezgin, Alâeddin Yavaşça, İhsan Özgen, Cinuşen Tanrıkorur and Erol Deran.

With the Cantemir Ensemble (founded in 1999), Aydemir released two CDs for “Kantemiroğlu Edvar”, which was published with Yalçın Tura’s translation by Yapı Kredi Culture and Art Publication in 2000. He gave concerts with this group and participated in a seminar and symposium. He also released classical saz series “Ahenk vol.1" (1997) and “Ahenk vol. 2" (2006) with Derya Türkan by Kalan Music and Golden Horn Music company. Aydemir had two concerts with Türkan in Germany (2003) and California, the United States (2005). In 2002, Aydemir released “Neva” with ney player Salih Bilgin by Kaf Music and Golden Horn Music company. They gave three concerts on the occasion of the exhibition “Ottoman Kaftans”, which was held in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC in 2006. Aydemir is a saz player for the Mizrabin Nefisi group. He released the CD “Mızrabın Nefisi” with the group through Kalan Music in 2007. Aydemir also released seven albums “Eski Nisan”, “İkinci Bahar”, “Eylül Şarkıları”, “İstanbul’a Dair”, “Mazi Kalbime”, “Elif” and “Kalbimdeki Deniz” with the İncesaz Group, which was founded with Cengiz Onural and Derya Türkan in 1997. In 2008, Aydemir released his first solo tambour album “Murat Aydemir” by Kalan Music. In the next year, he participated in the concert of “Cantemir: Music in Istanbul and Ottoman Europe around 1700” and some workshops with Neva Özgen, Linda Burman-Hall &Lux Musica in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC.

Since 1990, Aydemir has continued to perform in the Istanbul State Classical Turkish Music Choir, which belongs to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and has served as a soloist in many concerts in Turkey and abroad. He has also taught tambour and lute for almost 10 years. In 2010, he published and released Turkish Music Makam Guide (with two CDs) by the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency’s Classical Turkish Music Directorate.
