Erol Parlak was born in Eleşkirt in 1964. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory in 1986. He continued his research on bağlama and saz, and compiled more than 1000 Turkish folk songs in Anatolia. He has given many concerts in Turkey and abroad. Parlak has released 15 albums including seven solo albums, three instrumental albums, and five mixing albums. He has also published five books including Erol Parlak Bağlama Okulu, Parmak Tekniği (Şelpe) İçin Sistematik Kılavuz (Germany: Acoustic Music Books, 2011) and Garip Bülbül Neşet Ertaş (Istanbul: Demos Publications, 2013). He received the title Associate Professor in 2008 and Professor in 2014. Prof. Parlak currently continues teaching at Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory.
