Sıla Çevikçe was born in Ankara. She went to the United States in 1993 to pursue her study on jazz at Berklee College of Music. Since graduating from the College in 1996, she has been writing and performing original compositions with the Kim Bock Quartet, as well as with musicians and bands such as Dan McMillion, Greenwich Blue, Spindle, Jack Wilkins and others. She has also performed with many jazz artists including Pacquito D′Rivera, Clay Jenkins, John Lamb, Tim Hagans, Billy Drummond, Rich Perry and Ari Hoenig.

In 2004, Çevikçe released her debut album as a bandleader, titled "A New Abode" (Steeple Chase Records). She has been writing music for theater and film as a result of her growing interest in modern classical music and its visual application. Since her move to Corvallis from New York City in 2005, she has been teaching composition and improvisation at Oregon State University as well in her private studio.
