Oğuzhan Balcı was born in Istanbul in 1977. He started learning music from Prof. Canan Akın in TRT Istanbul Child Chorus when he was 6 years old. Balcı became a chorus member in the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Youth Chorus. He entered the Turkish Musical State Conservatory at Istanbul Technical University in 1988 and learned violin at the Violin Department under Prof. Ayhan Turan. Balcı then continued his education at the Department of Composition in his alma mater in 1994. He studied analyses of Turkish Music with Yavuz Özüstün, Harmony and Counterpoint with Dr. Nail Yavuzoğlu, Turkish Music Forms with Prof. Mutlu Torun, Piano and Chieftaincy with Demirhan Altuğ. Balcı continued his master’s degree at MIAM (Center of Advanced Music) in 2000 and studied composition and music theory with Prof. Kamuran İnce, David Osbon, and Pieter Snapper. He completed his master’s degree at Haliç University in Istanbul. Oğuzhan Balcı’s compositions and arrangements have played by İTÜ Chamber Orchestra.
