Yılmaz Erdoğan was born in Hakkari in 1967. He spent his childhood in Ankara until he moved to Istanbul with his family. He studied at Istanbul Technical University but discontinued; and joined the Nöbetçi Theatre in 1987. He worked as a chief screenwriter for Levent Kırca′s TV show "Olacak O Kadar." Erdoğan established his theater company "Güldüşündürü" and staged many plays including "Kanuni Sultan Süleyman ve Rambo." He then founded the Beşiktal Cultural Center with Necati Akpınar in 1994. Erdoğan continued his theatrical success with a series of plays and musicals, including his one man show "Cebimdeki Kelimele." He recorded a poetry music album "Kayıp Kentin Yakışıklısı," which includes seventeen poems accompanied by traditional Turkish music composed by Metin Kalender, Nizamettin Ariç, and Ali Aykaç. In 2001 Erdoğan acted in the film "Vizontele," which he wrote and directed. Since then he has produced many films including "Vizontele: Tuuba" (2004), "Organize İşler" (2005), "Neşeli Hayat" (2009), "Eyyvah Eyvah" (2010), and "Çok Filim Hareketler Bunlar" (2010). Erdoğan won the Cevat Fehmi Başkut Special Prize in the Afife Theatre Awards in 1999. He received the Best Actor Award for his film "Vizontele" in the Sadri Alışık Awards in 2001 and the Best Comedy TV series Award for "Çok Güzel Hareketler Bunlar" in the Golden Butterfly Awards in 2009.

Besides being an actor and director, Erdoğan has published three poetry books "Kayıp Kentin Yakışıklısı," "Anladım," and "Sahiler Düş Düşler Sahi."
