Yavuz Turgul was born in Istanbul in 1946. After graduating from the Institute of Journalism in the Faculty of Economic at Istanbul University, he started his career as a journalist. He worked at Ses newspaper for a long time. In 1976, he started writing scripts for Arzu Film with the support of Ertem Eğilmez. Turgul achieved early success in the late 70s and early 80s with scripts for a series of popular comedy productions from producer-director Ertem Eğilmez and director Kartal Tibet, such as “Tosun Paşa” (1976), “Sultan” (1978) and “Hababam Sınıfı Güle Güle” (1981). In the first time, Turgul drew attention with the film “Sultan”. It was followed by other films “Çiçek Abbas” and “Züğürt Ağa”. In 1984, Turgul began directing films: he directed the film “Fahriye Abla”. After shooting “Muhsin Bey” and “Gölge Oyunu” films, he directed the film “Eşkıya”. It had a great success and was nominated for an Academy Awards. His film “Gönül Yarası” was also nominated for an Academy Awards. “Kabaday” and “Av Mevsimi” also broke the record. He has worked with the famous Turkish actor Şener Şen in many films. Turgul has participated in many international film festivals in Turkey and abroad.
