Pınar Selek was born in Istanbul in 1971. She finished Notre Dame de Sion High School and graduated from the Sociology Department at Mimar Sinan University. She completed her Master’s degree in Sociology at her alma mater. She also studied economy-politics relation at Sophiantipolis UDEL University in France. She pioneered and found the “Sokak Sanatçıları Atölyesi” (Street Artists’ Workshop). Selek is one of the founders and activators who established Amargi Kadın Dayanışma Kooperatifi (Amargi Woman’s Solidarity Corporation). She supports people who work for Human Rights. In addition, Selek is the editor of “Amargi Feminist Theory”. Her articles have been published in many magazines. Currently, she is working on a new story in Germany with an International PEN fellowship. In October 2009, Selek was awarded the “Duygu Asena” Prize by the Administrative Board of the Pen Turkey Center.
