Yunus Tonkuş was born in Zile in 1954. He studied at the Turkish State Academy of Fine Arts, Ceramics Division (1973-1977) and Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, Sculpture Division (1978-1985). He studied sculpture in Carrara, Italy in 1983. He taught at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts between 1985 and 1986, and at the Technical University in Braunschweig in 1986 and 1991. He is currently working as a free-lance sculptor.
Tonkuş has had over 40 solo exhibitions, and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His works have been exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, City Museum Braunschweig, Akademie Wolfenbüttel in Rheine, State Museum of Painting and Sculpture in Istanbul, and in many private collections in France, Germany, Japan, Turkey, and USA.
