Zeren Göktan was born in Ankara in 1975. She graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Bilkent University in 1997. She continued her master’s degree in Visual Arts at her alma mater and completed in 1999. In 2000, she moved to the United States and completed her second master’s degree in media arts at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University in Boston. Göktan has had several solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. In 1997, she had her first solo exhibition at the Istanbul Maçka Gallery. In 2005, Göktan participated in a group exhibition “How did we arrive from New-Media to Still-life?” with Erhan Muratoğlu, Alper Eryurt at the Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center in Istanbul. In 2007, Göktan participated in the 10th International Istanbul Biennial “Documentary and Geopolitics” at the Santral Istanbul. In 2009, she attended the symposium “City and Human Rights” and presented her paper ‘Art in Public Space’ at Istanbul Bilgi University. She gave a talk on “Aboveground” in the X-OP Symposium and Workshop in Macao, Portugal. Since 2010 Göktan continues her doctoral degree at Yıldız Technical University.
