Murat Özkasım

Murat Özkasım was born in Istanbul in 1962. Since leaving Turkey in the early 1980s, he has travelled widely, living and working as a photographer, street performer andrestaurateur in Europe, the Far East, and North America. His practice draws from the visual impact of the new megalopolis while simultaneously assigning an interest to the history of art and the ways in which abstract art in particular relates to the urban environment. His art reflects an interest in the ideas and signs that mark out the contemporary passage to the multicultural and urbanized global society. Özkasım has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and his photographs have appeared in and on the covers of magazines and books internationally.
