Mehveş Lelic was born in Istanbul in 1990. She graduated from Robert College of Istanbul in 2009 and received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2013. She has lived and worked in Turkey, China, Morocco, Rwanda, and the United States. In 2013 she attended Magnum′s Documentary Photography Workshop with Abbas with a support from the Dean′s Fund of the University of Chicago. She received a Young Explorers Grant from National Geographic Society′s Expeditions Council to do photography work on Sufi (Bektashi) Lodges in the Balkans. Her work has been displayed at the British Consulate of Istanbul, Institut des Cultures D′Islam in Paris, and the Chicago Public Library, and published in National Geographic Adventure Blogs, Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review, and Geo Magazine. Lelic currently continues her work in Germany.
