Art Profile :

İzzet Keribar was born in Istanbul in 1936. Since his early teens, he has developed a great interest in photography, and during his military service, as an officer in the Turkish Armed Forces in Korea, he became the official photographer the Turkish Unit. In 1980, after a long intermission, he decided to return to photography. Since then he never stopped, organized countless photo trips inside and outside Turkey, thus creating one of the most formidable stock photo archive in the country. He became an Honorary member of Ifsak, the leading Photo club, and received both A.Fiap and E.Fiap distinctions in 1985 and 1988. After many years of consecutive slide shows, personal exhibitions, and prizes, his name became well known in Turkey. Later, in 1991 the French Government gave him a “Chevalier dans les Arts Académique“ distinction, and during the same year he won the 2nd prize from National Geographic Traveler magazine contest, and the first prize from the Jerusalem Post, among thousands of participants. In 1993, three new important prizes came from Ballantine’s (2nd, 3rd and a honorable mention); in 1997 he won the Fujifilm European Press awards 1st prize, in 2000 a merit prize from National Geographic, and in 2001 the FUJIFILM Press awards Millennium prize in Copenhagen. During the last 10 years, his work has been published in Turkey’s leading magazines, such as Atlas, Skylife, and abroad, in National Geographic Traveler, GEO and many others. In 1999 he published his book “Terra Magica" in which a collection of his best work can be seen. Since 1998, Izzet Keribar’s only occupation is photography, which he now practices as a professional freelancer. He teaches photography, mainly in photographic associations like IFSAK, and works with government agencies in order to promote tourism in Turkey. He is often asked to participate in selection committees in photography competitions. He devotes most his time to shooting Turkish panoramas, but still organizes trips abroad, and with his team he also takes shooting assignments such as factories, hotels, museums, holiday villages, interior decoration, collections etc. He owns systems ranging from the classical 35 mm to the Pentax medium format 6x7, plus the latest digitals. Scanning, CD delivery has also become a daily routine. He owns NIKON systems, with the big digital cameras such as the D2X and D200 with a large array of NIKON lenses. He has held many exhibitions and slide shows not only all over Turkey but also abroad: Washington DC, New York, Paris, Geneva at the UN, Athens, Strasbourg, Rennes, and Finland.
