Gültekin Çizgen was born in Istanbul in 1940. He started taking photographs in 1958, and had his first solo exhibition in 1962. Since then, he has had numerous solo exhibitions and slide shows not only in Turkey, but also Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, China, Canada, Mexico, Brazil. He has also shown his multivision programs in many countries including the US, Germany, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, China, Indonesia, France, South Korea, India, Holland, Iraq, England, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, North Cyprus, Kirgizstan, Kuwait, Egypt, Russia, Slovenia, Saudi Arabia, Tunis, and Greece. Çizgen is the founder of the Photography Publications and the “Yeni Fotoğraf” magazine. Since 1978, he has served as one of the honorary founders in the Photography Institute at Mimar Sinan University. He has also served as a committee chairman in the Association of Professional Publicity Photographers. Çizgen has published more than 27 photography books. Currently, he serves as a board chairman and curator in the Istanbul Photography Museum.
