Ersin Alok was born in Istanbul in 1937. He graduated from the Psychology Department in the Faculty of Arts and Letters at Istanbul University and from the Department of Journalism and Commerce at the Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. As a painter, he had his first painting exhibition at the exhibition hall of the School of Languages, History and Geography of Ankara University in 1953.

Alok started his professional career as a photographer in 1967. He has won many prizes including the first prize in the 5th Paris Biennial and other first prizes in Rome, Brussels, Sofia, Warsaw, and USA Barkley follow program (1989). The World Photography Association gave him the right to represent Asia, and had his panoramic triangular exhibition with three other artists. Alok has had more than 250 exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has formed a sound archive with his studies on sound recording. He founded the first dia archive in Turkey, which includes 6,500,000 slides. Alok has published 21 books. He founded the Photography Institute of the Mimar Sinan University. He has given many lectures both in Turkey and abroad. Besides photography, Alok has been working on documentary films. He has released 38 documentary films. Currently, he continues his work in Istanbul.
