Art Profile :

Aydan Murtezaoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1961. After finishing Norte Dame de Sion High School, she studied economics at Istanbul University. She then completed her master’s degree in the Painting Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University. Murtezaoğlu has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. She paints and creates conceptual installation arts using photographs. Her special interventions almost always begin with something personal such as a self-portrait, family photos. From the personal or autobiographical, she moves into larger social issues such as the traditional roles of women in Islamic culture. Several bodies of work address the discomfort with the expression of female sexuality within the confining mores of Turkish society. In 2009, Erden Kosova published “Aydan Murtezaoğlu Yakınlıklar Kaybolup Mesafeler Kapanırken” and introduced Murtezaoğlu’s art works.
