Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öner Gezgin completed his studies at the Textile Department, Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1970. He received a state scholarship to go to study experimental photography and graphic design at Kassel University in Germany in 1972. He graduated from there in 1977. In 1975, he participated in seminars and workshops at Chalon Sur Saon (France, 1975), and at the Salzburg Summer Academy (Salzburg, 1981). In 1978, he started to work as an assistant in the Graphic Department at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. He has participated in many joint exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. In 1974, his first solo exhibition “Objects” was held in Kassel. This was followed in 1980 by the exhibition “Truth and Fantasy” in Istanbul, and exhibition of experimental photography in Osnabruck, Germany. Prof. Gezgin presented an exhibition entitled “Conceptual and Visual Images” at the 1989 Art Biennial in Istanbul and in Ankara (1990). He has participated in many seminars, conferences, open forums and symposiums and also given speeches and published articles in print / publishing organizations and photography. In 1991, he was chosen “Most Successful Photographer of the Year” by the Ankara Art Foundation. Currently he is the assistant Rector and the Dean of the Fine Arts Faculty of Mimar Sinan University.
