Erkan Geniş was born in Bartin in 1943. He started taking painting class from Hikmet Onat. After he moved to Ankara, Geniş shared a workshop with Saim Paşa (Kanra) for 12 years. Between 1964 and 1987, he participated in many group exhibitions with famous painters. During his study at the Faculty of Political Science of Ankara University and following years, Geniş served as a high ranked bureaucrat in the Republic of Turkey. After retiring as a General Manager of Turkish Machine Industries, Geniş established his workshop in Ankara. He studied at Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and Salzburg Summer Academy. He researched European Paintings in the 19th and 20th centuries and painting education in Vienna, Salzburg, Bratislava, Budapest and Prague for 6 years.

Geniş was accepted as one of the greatest 100 Turkish painters who ever lived, and announced by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. His works can be seen in various collections in 18 countries. Recently, he celebrated his 50th solo exhibitions at the Suna Çokgür Ilıcak Art Gallery, which belongs to the Foreign Ministry. Currently, Geniş continues to work and teach at his workshop in Ankara and Vienna.
