Erdem Taşdelen was born in Ankara in 1985. He grew up in Switzerland, Germany and Turkey. After graduating from the Department of Visual Arts and Communication Design at Sabancı University in Istanbul in 2007, he completed his Master′s degree in Visual Arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2010. He currently teaches at the Department of Critical and Cultural Studies of Sabancı University. His multidisciplinary practice involves a range of media including drawing, sculpture, video, sound and artist books. Taşdelen often works with text and language, as well as drawing from a diverse set of references that includes both highbrow and lowbrow expressions of personal identification. These references are filtered through self-reflexive processes, where he questions his various existences in social realms, ultimately presenting an investigation of subjectivity and its representations. His works are often imbued with dramatization, playfulness and humor, and his practice engages the socially constructed and culturally learned aspects of self-expression. Taşdelen has held many solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada.
