Canan Beykal was born in Merzifon in 1948. She graduated from the Painting Department at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1972. She had her first exhibition in Istanbul in 1974. Beykal completed her master’s degree in 1977. After studying collective design in Paris in 1977, she had her exhibition in Berlin. She participated in the Balkan Countries Plastic Arts Exhibition. In 1977, she won an award of peace in the Peace Poster Competition, which was organized by the Peace Society. In 1981, she received a fellowship from Austrian Government and worked with Mario Merz in the Salzburg Summer Academy. In 1981, Beykal exhibited “İzm’ler” in the State Gallery of Fine Arts. Beykal has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Currently, she continues her work in Istanbul.
