Burhan Kum was born in Istanbul in 1962. While he drew caricatures in Mikrop, Çivi and Cumhuriyet newspaper, he finished Darüşşafaka High School. He then studied Computer Science at Istanbul Technical University between 1981 and 1983 but quitted school and went to Holland to study Plastic Art. Kum entered the Dutch Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1984 and graduated from the Painting Department in 1989. He founded his workshop in Amsterdam. He had his first solo exhibition in Baku Fine Arts Center in 1992. He has also participated in many group exhibitions. In 1995, Kum went back to Turkey and moved to Seki village in Antalya. Currently, he continues his work in Antalya.
