Avni Yamaner was born in Izmir in 1940. He graduated from the Nurullah Berk′s workshop at Istanbul State Academy of Fine Art in 1968. Between 1972 and 1976, he received a scholarship and went to Paris to study painting. During his stay in Paris, he was affected by the thought of “avant garde”, “minimalism” and “cubism”. In 1977, Yamaner founded “Sanat Tanımı Topluluğu” (the Definition of Art Group) with Şükrü Aysan, Ahmet Öktem and Serhat Kiraz. His first international solo exhibition was held in Paris in 1975. After his solo exhibition in Istanbul State Gallery in 1978, he left the group. Yamaner served as an Assistant Professor in the Painting Department of the Faculty of Education at Uludağ University. Yamaner has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. As of today, he retired from university and continues his work in Bursa.
