Şükran Aziz was born in Orrhoe. She completed her master’s degree at Prof. Adnan Çoker’s workshop in the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University. She received an honorable mention in the 20th DYO Painting competition. Before living and showing in New York City, Aziz traveled extensively in Europe, and researched art history and movements between 1985 and 1986. In 2002, she moved to Poughkeepsie, where she re-designed and worked on a historical building for four years as an art project. Aziz is the founder of the Cabaret Voltaire Art Center in Poughkeepsie. She has always been an ardent devotee of two important art movements from the early part of the 20th century, the art of the Russian avant-gardes and DaDA. She has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and the US.
