İnci Eviner was born in Ankara in 1956. She graduated from Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts and continued her master’s degree at her alma mater by the 1980s. She taught at the Faculty of Art and Design at Yıldız University in 1998. She has been invited as the artist in residence by prestigious institutions including the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio, Como in Italy (2000); the international Studio and Curatorial Programme in New York (2004), LEUBE Group’s Artist in Residency Programme in Salzburg (2005) and Cite International des Art in Paris (2008). She received her Ph.D. from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 2006. Eviner had her first solo exhibition “Today’s Artist” at the Istanbul State Painting and Sculpture Museum in 1981. Since then she has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad:  Mizuma Art Gallery in Tokyo (1996 and 2005); “Unheimlich” in Apollonia in Strasbourg (2005); European Reflections in Copenhagen (2006); Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin (2007); and “Last Things” at Westfalischer Kunstverein in Münster (2008). She has also participated in the 9th Istanbul Biennial (2005) with her work “Free Kick” in the Hospitality Zone and the Venice Biennial (1997) with her work “Skinless”.
