Cihan Demirci was born in Istanbul in 1963. After finishing primary and middle school, he studied in the Textile Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, and the Department of Cinema and Television at Mimar Sinan University. He started drawing caricature at the age of fifteen. His first caricature was published in Fırt magazine in 1978. He then published his caricature with his signiture in Gırgır magazine in 1980. In the next year, he started drawing professionally and published them in Ses magazine. Between 1982 and 1986, Demirci worked with important Turkish caricaturists at the Güldürü Üretim Center. In those times, he drew caricature for many TV programs and newspapers such as Güneş, Hürriyet and Milliyet. Later, he worked for Gırgır and Fırt magazines. In 1988-1989, he drew caricature with Sinan Gürdağcık in the Mazete, which was a supplement of Gazete newspaper. He then lived in Paris for 2 years.
Demirci has drawn caricature in many publications including Yorgan, EP and Hey (Milliyet publications). He prepared Pes supplement for Günaydın newspaper. In 1996, he published caricature magazine Panik with his friends. Between 1997 and 2002, he continued drawing “Laforizmalar”, which he started in 1995, in the corner of Melih Aşık in the Milliyet newspaper. In 1999, Demirci prepared his radio program “Damdaki Mizahçı” in the Radio Cumhuriyet. In the next year, he worked as a columnist in Takvim newspaper. Between 2002 and 2004, Demirci prepared radio program on caricature (total 157 volumes). He drew caricature in children’s magazine Miço and Mobidik, and other publications such as Ünlem, Milliyet-Kirpi, Radikal-iki, Birgün-Pazar supplement, İmge-Öuküler, Homur, Karikatür, Forum-Edebiyat, Bizden Haberler and Delidolu. He has had 11 caricature exhibitions and published over 38 books. Currently, Demirci continues drawing caricature “Çiziyet” in the corner of “Vaziyet” in Cumhuriyet newspaper.
