Mehmet Tüzüm Kızılcan was born in Izmir, Kemalpaşa in 1941. He started making ceramic at Füreya Koral Workshop in 1959. He also made pottery works with Hasan Tobay in Göksu. He then worked at the Art Department of the Eczacıbaşı Ceramic Factory between 1961 and 1960. He studied in the Ceramic Department at German Werkkunst Schule Offenbach in Germany between 1962 and 1965. In 1969, Kızılcan worked in the Gorbon-Işıl Ceramic. He founded his workshop in 1970. He taught at several places: the Izmir Painting and Sculpture Museum, Ceramic Department (1985-1988); the Ceramic College at Ege University (1988); Ceramic and Glass Department at Dokuz Eylül University (1988-2000); and the branch of Turkish Traditional Handicrafts, Ceramic Department at Dokuz Eylül University (1989-2004). His works can be seen in Turkey and abroad. Kızılcan has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. He received many awards in Turkey and foreign countries. Kızılcan was awarded as an honorary artist at Ege University in 2007.
