Coşkun Aral was born in Siirt in 1956. He started taking press photographs in 1974 for Günaydın and Gün newspapers. He continued to work at Ekonomi ve Politika newspaper in 1976. His photographs which were taken on the first of May in 1977 were introduced to the world through the Sipa Press. He then became a correspondent of Sipa Agency in Turkey. As a free lance, he took photographs for Turkish News Agency, Milliyet and Hürriyet newspapers. Aral interviewed highjackers, who high jacked an aircraft on the 14th October 1980, for the first time in the world. He made a name for himself with his report and photography in the world and he was awarded on this matter in Turkey and foreign countries.

Since 1980s Aral has taken photographs on wars and incidents in Lebanon, Ireland, Poland, Chad and in the Middle Eastern countries under the name of Times, Newsweek, L’Ecpress, Paris-Match, Stern and Epoca. These photographs were exhibited and published in world-wide photo albums. In 1983 a photo album, “Galile’de Barış”, was published by Edition de Minuit. It contains four war photographers’ works, including Coşkun Aral, Reza and Yan Morvan, and was republished in Germany and Algeria. Aral′s photographs were also in the book “War Torn”, which included the best 31 war photographer’s works and was published by Pantheon Publish house in New York.

His war photographs, which were taken between 1983 and 1985, were exhibited in FNAC in Paris and Time Life Gallery in New York. In 1988 Aral had a joint exhibition with Ara Güler in Denmark and Finland. In the same year, his adventure photo album, “Türkiye: Bin millik Büyük Serüven”, was published. In 1993 Aral prepared an exhibition, “War and People”, at the Foreign Cultural Center in Düsseldorf. His other books “Savaş Tehlikeli Işık” and “Dünyanın En Tehlikeli Terleri” were published by Fielding Worldwide Publish house in 1995.

Along with photography, Aral has produced TV programs such as “32. Gün” (1986), “Haberci” and “Türkiye Renkleri” for ATV, NTV, Show TV and TRT. He is one of the founder of İZ TV.
