Ayda Akay was born in Ankara in 1959. She graduated from the psychology Department in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1983. She started ebru art with Nesret Hepgül at a class in the Seven Art Gallery in 1989. In 1990, she learned calligraphy from Fuat Başar. Akay taught ebru at the Chat-Noire Workshop (1997-2000), and the Gizli Workshop (2004-2006). She had an ebru workshop on the occasion of the Infection Deceases Congress, which was held at Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine in 2002. In the next year, she had another workshop on the occasion of the Physicians Chess Tournament, which was held by Nobel Medicine Company. Her studio, which she founded in Kadıköy in 2007, was closed due to a fire. In 2005, Akay transferred from the Kadıköy psychology and Research Center, where she worked as a psychologist, to the Yeldeğirmeni Children and Youth Center. In 2006, she worked as an ebru teacher at the Neuropsychiatry Istanbul Hospital. After her retirement in 2007, Akay continues working as an ebru teacher and ergo therapist. She has had solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions.
