Ali Aksoy was born in Artvin in 1957. He graduated from Karadeniz Technical University, Department of Civil Engineering in 1981. He began painting when he was a high school student. He has made an extensive research on modern and contemporary paintings. He prefers to use free dimensioned canvas rather than ordinary rectangular canvas in his works. It causes him to be called as "the painter who doesn′t fit into a canvas (frame)". Aksoy had his 11th solo exhibition in the Montserrat Art Gallery in New York in 2004. As of today, he continues to paint with his own color and line expression.
